About me

Hello, my name is Scott and welcome to my photography site. Photography has been a lifelong hobby of mine and remember the fun days snapping shots with a small snapshot Kodak film camera capturing random subjects even if I didn't know what I was doing with it half the times.

When I look back on all my old family photographs from my younger years it draws back so many happy memories and I think for me this in large part epitomises photography and the photographer, capturing moments that mean so much to people.

I always had a love and desire for the outdoors, excited about travelling places and from my teenage years a great fascination of the Scottish scenery that really captured my eyes, with a mix of my innate enthusiasm for adventure walks and climbing and my love for photography and videography it was then I wanted to capture what I saw and experienced to share with the world whether it were images to look back on of my achievements such as climbing Ben Nevis, the scenery or capturing video to share of who I am and what I see.

At that time in my life I knew I had a creative mind and ability through expressing myself through video or photography. It never quite crossed my mind to pursue photography as a career at that point in my life, I knew nothing about photography, never thought about it or looked into it, even staring past it from day to day life watching sports taking so much for granted. It wasn't until I began studying a course at Glasgow Clyde College in TV operations with photography that I began to really appreciate the career path and opportunities.

The photography part of the course gave me the opportunity to gain my higher qualification in photography and was entry level into TV operations. I'm proud to say that through hard work I managed to complete two full project workbooks which I based my project around nature photography relative to wildlife in Scotland.

I proudly achieved a grade A for my photography and my lecturer paid high compliment stating it was the best work he had seen from that college in the twenty odd years he had been working there. This gave me great confidence and belief in my work and ability and was one of the fortunate ones who was accepted for a two year HND placement at the City of Glasgow College to progress my photography skillset.

I can thankfully say I have now graduated having completed my two year HND course and finished off the year proudly having not only achieved a grade A for my self-initiated project which I decided to do on wildlife again, but also having proudly won a Craftex award for the City of Glasgow College in the advanced photography category.

Part of this is thanks to professional wildlife photographer Neil McIntyre for the subtle but important things I learned from his vast experience and managing to get me as close to the red squirrels that I had. I'm a firm believer in learning from those vastly more experienced and it pays off as it helped improve my skillset. My experience has taught me that it's not all about what you do with the camera, it's where you stand and what you do off camera that creates the picture.

The direction I would love to pursue in photography would be a mixture between social photography relative to weddings, family and pet portraiture, to sport photography. I have had so much fun learning having had little work experience and now looking to progress towards becoming a professional photographer. You will find samples of my work in my portfolio. If you like what I do feel free to contact me, you may also find some of my work through my Iknstagram and Facebook.
